Horse Laser utilizes the K-Laser Cube Performance Class IV laser for our therapeutic services. Class IV lasers deliver the broadest range of specific red and near-infrared wavelengths and frequencies of laser light to induce an optimal therapeutic effect.
During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduced inflammation, pain reduction and enhanced tissue healing.
Class IV lasers:
- Deliver coherent light, which allows a large concentration of energy to be focused in a small area
- Deliver therapeutic doses to deeper targets in a shorter amount of time
Wavelengths determine laser energy’s depth of penetration in tissue and specifically target beneficial chromophores to stimulate the photochemical reaction.
Scientific research shows us that a range of wavelengths from 600 to 1000nm is able to promote healing of skin, muscle, nerve, tendon, ligament, cartilage, bone, and other tissues.
The visible spectrum of light is 400 nm-700 nm. Light waves that are less than 432 nm are high-energy: Ultraviolet wavelengths are less than 400 nm and can cause ionization of cells. Ionization is the change in the cell’s constitution and can result in the creation of free radicals and cell damage. Light waves that are greater than 432 nm are non-ionizing: Low-energy Infrared wavelengths are greater than 700 nm and excite cells but do not cause cell destruction or free radical production.
Melanin in our skin readily absorbs 660nm light. Since light can both inhibit bacteria and promote cell growth, laser therapy has incredible results in wound healing and scar tissue regulation.
The enzyme determining how efficiently the cell converts molecular oxygen into ATP has the highest absorption at 800nm. Regardless of the enzyme’s molecular state, when it absorbs a photon it will flip states. Photon absorption will accelerate the process and increase cellular ATP production.
The quicker oxygen is released into the blood stream, the more fuel the cell has to carry out all of its natural healing processes. The peak of hemoglobin’s absorption lies at 905nm, and when this wavelength is absorbed, more of this oxygen-fuel is made available to the cells.
Our horse’s blood consists of mostly of water that absorbs 970nm light very well. Blood transports oxygen to the cells and carries waste away. The energy created from absorbing a light photon results in heat production, creating a temperature gradient at the cellular level, stimulating microcirculation, and bringing more oxygen-fuel to the cells.
